Surrounded by the picturesque backdrop of the Kitzbühel Alps, the Wildschönau in Tyrol offers ideal terrain for paragliders. Thanks to its beautiful landscape, the region is not only a feast for the eyes, but also the perfect place for breathtaking flights. Paragliders benefit from excellent flying and wind conditions, as the high valley is well shielded from strong winds. Thanks to the special microclimate, you can paraglide here in the Wildschönau around 300 days a year. Enjoy ideal thermals and experience the unique feeling of gliding over majestic mountain ridges and idyllic valleys – it’s simply incomparable.
Paragliding on the Markbachjoch in Tyrol
There are numerous take-off and landing sites in the region that appeal to all levels of experience and enable flexible and safe flight planning. For your perfect flying experience, we would like to recommend the take-off site on the Markbachjoch. Once you have left the solid ground beneath your feet, you can soar around 600 metres into the valley and let your gaze wander over the varied terrain.
You can easily reach the take-off point with the Markbachjoch cable car. The cable car is around 15 minutes’ walk from the aparthotel and takes you up to 1500 m from mid-May to October – with the Wildschönau Card you can even travel for free. And absolutely practical: the landing site is located in Niederau directly in front of the Alpine Collection Aparthotel, so after landing it’s only a stone’s throw to your accommodation.
Flight school with years of experience
Would you like to experience the unique feeling of floating, but don’t have a paragliding licence yourself? A tandem flight with an experienced tandem pilot from the Wildschönau flight school will take you safely up into the air and back down to the ground again without any problems. If you are in possession of the Wildschönau Card, you will also benefit from a discount on the price of the flight. - Hiking: The region offers over 300 kilometres of well-maintained hiking trails that lead through the breathtaking mountain landscape. From leisurely walks to challenging mountain tours, there is something for every taste.
- Cycling: Do you love cycling? Then pack your bike as well as your paraglider! In the Wildschönau there are numerous routes that lead through the beautiful landscape. The tours vary from easy family tours to challenging trails and sporty racing bike routes.
- Swimming: In summer, take the opportunity to swim in one of the clear mountain lakes or visit the local outdoor pools to cool off on hot days.
- Cultural experiences: Visit the z’Bach Mountain Farmers’ Museum, which offers interesting insights into the traditional way of life and history of the region.
