Alpine Collection Wildschönau

We Live Sustainability

“Sustainability is only successful when embraced by everyone, including guests, employees, and partners. Together, we create an environment where our hotel thrives as a liveable and successful space in economic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions.”

That is why we at Alpine Collection Wildschönau are particularly proud of our
Austrian Ecolabel and EU Ecolabel certifications.

We for the Environment

At Alpine Collection Wildschönau, it is important to us to consider people, nature, and our activities. Therefore, we place the highest value on quality and sustainability.

As a regional employer, we are very aware of our responsibility and always make decisions with a focus on sustainability and regionality. It is also important to us to manage our resources deeply and responsibly with our employees. They receive specific training in this regard. Because only together are we strong.

We in Our Surroundings

Regionality and short distances are our keys to success and to environmental conservation. To ensure that value creation remains within the region, we work with local and regional partner companies.

All craftsmen involved in construction of the  hotel come from Tyrol – we support our regional network.

We also source offered food as well as everyday products from the immediate vicinity, including:

  • Krautinger from Wildschönau.

  • Beer and wines from Austria.

  • Non-food products from regional suppliers.

  • Local printing companies such as Hernegger Druck with FSC-certified papers.

Talking Brings People Together

Communication with our guests and partners is essential for a good relationship. Therefore, we are always in contact, but we are very mindful of how we communicate. We use many online communication channels. We try to minimise the use of printed promotional materials, and when we do use them, we ensure they are in small quantities and made with FSC-certified papers. Our office papers have environmental labels such as ISO Type I, the Austrian Ecolabel, the Nordic Swan, the EU Ecolabel, or the Blue Angel.

We Protect the Environment

The Alpine Collection Wildschönau was newly built in 2022. The construction of the building is based on the latest technical standards and is carried out using solid construction methods. This means the foundations, floor slabs, load-bearing walls, and main staircase are made of reinforced concrete to ensure durability.

Thermal insulation is applied according to building physics specifications and in the required thickness (insulation system EPS Lamda 031) as per the energy performance certificate.

The windows and terrace doors have been fitted with triple-glazed insulation (0.5W/m²K).

All s and public areas in the hotel are equipped with LED and energy-saving lamps. The common areas and the back-of-house are fitted with motion sensors to operate as energy-efficiently as possible.

In the s, all lamps and lights, as well as other electrical appliances (except dishwashers), are controlled by a central switch, allowing our guests to turn off all electricity in the room with just one click, thereby preventing unnecessary power consumption. Our guests are asked to use this switch whenever they leave the room, as indicated in our in-room handbook.

We produce our electricity with the 29 kV photovoltaic system located on the roof, which generates power year-round. In the summer months, the PV system produces nearly 40% of our electricity needs. Additional electricity is sourced from Ökoenergie Tirol, which derives approximately 87% from hydropower, 9% from wind energy, and the rest from other sustainable energy sources.

All our heating is supplied by hot water from our pellet heating system. Wood pellets are more environmentally friendly than conventional heating methods because they burn CO2-neutrally, meaning they release exactly the amount of CO2 during combustion that the tree previously absorbed. In addition to heating, the pellet heating system produces hot water for the entire house: baths, showers, sinks, and the whirlpool.

All heating systems are centrally regulated. This ensures automated control, preventing temperatures in the s and public areas from rising unnecessarily, with automatic regulation. At night and during times when guests are typically away, we utilise the reduced heating function.

For maximum water enjoyment and minimal consumption, the hotel utilises showerheads (9L/min) and taps (6L/min) in accordance with the guidelines of the Austrian and European Ecolabels.

In our in-house laundry, we only use eco-certified detergents. These are automatically dispensed through a dosing station to use only as much as necessary, thus protecting the environment and our staff.

Even guest soap dispensers in public areas and s are automatically controlled to prevent excessive use of the products.

The whirlpool technical system in the basement ensures sustainable water treatment. The hot water from the pellet heating system enters the insulated pool tank, where its temperature is kept stable. During whirlpool opening hours, the hot water is pumped into the whirlpool on the second floor within 4.3 minutes and continuously exchanged with the hot water in the tank after passing through a water filter. This ensures that the pool water remains at the correct temperature with minimal effort and is constantly cleaned, preventing a complete water change.

There are several ski boot dryers in the ski room, all of which are timed. This means that the drying rods only heat for reduced hours in the morning and evening, without wasting energy permanently.

The ventilation system in public areas and guest rooms ensures temperature-controlled fresh air supply, so that cold outside air is not introduced, and the overall temperature of the building is reduced.

Air conditioning units have been installed only on the second floor, where summer heat comes through the roof into the s. To prevent these units from running permanently, they are set on a 4-hour timer.

Even the towel dryer and The Flame fireplace units in the s have been reduced to a running time of 2 hours per timer.

We Dispose Waste Properly

At Alpine Collection Wildschönau, we place great emphasis on waste reduction and avoidance. If waste is generated, it is separated correctly according to our waste management concept. Our employees are trained in this regard and serve as role models for our guests.

In the s, everything is provided for proper waste separation. Containers for food waste, plastic, paper/cardboard, residual waste, cans, and bottles are available. The guest handbook explains to guests how to separate waste and where to dispose of it.

In the waste room, 1-2 containers are available for each type of waste for correct disposal. These are checked and disposed of weekly by our caretaker according to our waste management concept. We would like to appeal to our guests once again to adhere to our waste management concept and separate waste correctly. This could certainly save additional unnecessary work hours.

We strictly separate kitchen waste from garden waste. Through the Hopfgarten municipality, the energy-rich waste from the kitchen bin is processed in a treatment plant, where biogas is extracted from it. This biogas is then used to generate eco-friendly electricity in combined heat and power plants. The contents of the garden bin, on the other hand, are processed into high-quality compost and returned to nature.

We for the Preservation of Biodiversity

Biodiversity and regionalism are close to our hearts. That’s why we have opted for a wildflower meadow behind the  building, which provides habitat and production space for insects and bees. Additionally, we have set up an insect hotel.

Our guests can purchase Wildschönau Krautinger from our vending machine, produced by one of the 16 remaining farmers who are still allowed to produce Krautinger today. Nowhere else in Tyrol or Austria, only in Wildschönau, is Krautinger distilled. The beetroot schnapps is made from white turnips.

The wine offered in the vending machine is exclusively Austrian wine from outstanding quality producers.

We Travel Green

Public transportation is a key factor in climate protection and is supported by us. Guests arriving by public transportation will be rewarded with an Austrian snack upon arrival. Employees commuting by public transportation receive financial assistance for purchasing a public transportation season ticket.

A total of 4 fixed PCE charging stations with Type 2 plugs for electric cars are installed in the underground garage and in the outdoor parking area. The management and employees also travel, if possible, by electric car.

Charging Facilities for E-Bikes:

In the bike garage, there are 10 charging facilities for our guests where they can safely charge their bicycles.
